Rabbit on. Oops! Rabbit off . . . With some endearing misadventures, Jo Ham's international sensation hops into the pages of a picture-book series.
Big waves and sandcastles, paint cans and tippy chairs—accidents happen! And with cheeky, curious, and sweet-toothed Rabbit, they're almost inevitable. The creation of Jo Ham, whose art celebrates the magic of everyday life, Rabbit has been spotted everywhere from the Centre Pompidou in Paris to the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and on mugs and nursery decorations in homes around the world. Now the iconic black-silhouetted bunny appears in a series of children's books—fun, playful, and irreverent stories in striking and stylish packages that beg for a place on children's bookshelves.

Toddler-PreS-Ham's spectacular silhouettes in black and white, with a streak of near-neon color, follow the tale of a rabbit and its travails. "Rabbit on" shows a bunny on a chair creating, like a hare-version of Harold and the Purple Crayon, a pink drawing on a wall-like surface. The chair tips. "Oops!" That means "Rabbit off." A sandcastle for the "on" illustration turns into an "off" when a wave hits it, and a bubble bath goes blissfully awry. This is ideal toddler stuff; they will shout along, absorb the words, and "Oops!" will become a new favorite exclamation. VERDICT Ham keeps it simple and delivers a bullseye. Creative and compelling.-Ginnie Abbott
