Pike Logan tracks highly-trained Russian assassins to Brazil in this blistering, action-packed thriller from New York Times bestselling author and former Special Forces Officer Brad Taylor.

"It's an excellent read, and I greatly enjoyed it." —Nelson DeMille

Pike Logan and the Taskforce were once the apex predators, an unrivaled hunting machine that decimated those out to harm the United States, but they may have met their match. While Pike Logan and Jennifer Cahill prepare to join their team on a counter-terrorist mission in the triple frontier—the lawless tri-border region where Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay meet—they are targeted in Charleston, South Carolina. A vicious explosion kills a friend, and the perpetrators have set it up to look like an accident. While the authorities believe this was not foul play, Pike knows the attack was meant for him.

When he loses contact with the team in South America, Pike is convinced he and the Taskforce are under assault. His men are the closest thing to family that Pike has, which means he will do anything, even ignore direct orders to stand down, to find them. Pike and Jennifer head to Brazil to investigate their disappearance and run headlong into a crew of Russian assassins. Within days they are entangled in a byzantine scheme involving Brazilian politics and a cut-throat battle for control of offshore oil fields.

Forged in combat, the Russians are the equal of anything the Taskforce has encountered before, but they make a mistake in attacking Pike's team, because Pike has a couple of elite Israeli assassins of his own. And Pike will stop at nothing to protect his family.

Worries about Pike Logan’s mental health among those close to him hover over bestseller Taylor’s sturdy 14th novel featuring the head of the elite counterterrorism unit known as Taskforce (after 2019’s Daughter of War). Pike and his love interest and partner in Taskforce, Jennifer Cahill, along with their 13-year-old charge, Amena, who was rescued in Syria, are targeted at their home in Charleston, S.C. Pike’s mentor, Kurt Hale, gets blown up by a car bomb meant for Pike, setting the enraged Pike off on an unauthorized mission of vengeance. Meanwhile, a group of Russians are going down a list of assassinations in Brazil, where two of Pike’s Taskforce team members are swept up in an unrelated terrorist kidnapping on a ferry. The wide-ranging plot has lots of moving parts, which initially slows the action, but the pace picks up once Pike calls in his Israeli married friends, Aaron and Shoshana Bergman, who as usual raise the excitement level as they wreak havoc. A big surprise on the last page will please series fans. Agent: John Talbot, Talbot Fortune.

Out for vengeance, an off-the-books task force of American special operators sets their crosshairs on a Russian clandestine hit squad. With his experience in Special Forces, retired Lt. Col. Taylor (Daughter of War, 2019, etc.) brings an unquestionable level of authenticity to his Pike Logan series of military thrillers. Relaxing alongside Jennifer Cahill, his romantic and business partner, Pike is at home in Charleston, South Carolina, when a dear mentor and brother in arms is killed in a car-bomb explosion that Pike is sure was meant for him. Then, Pike's sense of hypervigilance is piqued further when a Thai mercenary and old friend reaches out from the shadows to warn him that the threat is far from over. The web of intrigue becomes increasingly layered when Pike's elite unit, the Taskforce, which is already working in the tri-border region between Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay to quell Hezbollah activity, finds itself in the midst of a thick Russian plot. When the same ex-Russian Spetsnaz soldiers who were behind the attack at Pike's home also attempt to gain control of the Brazilian economy and political structure through a series of coordinated assassinations, Pike's quest for personal retribution and his sense of service to American foreign interests commingle. Throw in some former Israeli Mossad agents and the cast of international elite operators along with the level of bone-crushing violence is almost overflowing. A surefire hit for those who like contemporary foreign affairs spiced heavily with page-turning action.

Revenge plays a key role in Taylor's latest thriller featuring Pike Logan and his team of highly trained operatives in the Taskforce. From events chronicled in previous series installments, Logan has become a target of Russian assassins. When an attempt on his life takes out a dear friend instead, he immediately vows to destroy those responsible. The trail takes the Taskforce to Brazil, but it soon becomes clear to everyone else on the team that Logan's judgment might be impaired, and soon the frays begin to show. What makes a family, and what one will do to protect that bond, weighs heavily on Logan, especially when the enemy is as formidable as the Taskforce. Taylor continues to tell flawless stories with his stellar cast of characters and timely scenarios. It's amazing that after so many novels Taylor can still maintain the high-level quality and breathless action readers expect, while also getting better with each tale. When it comes to writing about the world of black ops, Taylor is one of the absolute best.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2019, American Library Association.)

Talk about "ripped from the headlines": bestseller Robinson's latest international political thriller (after 2004's Scimitar SL-2
) reads like the evening news on speed. In 2009, Saudi Arabia's Prince Nasir plans to overthrow his country's royal family—a popular target, especially since Farenheit 9/11
—with the French government's help. In order to make the coup d'état appear an exclusively Arab job, the French hire a Moroccan, Col. Jacques Gamoudi (aka Le Chasseur or the Hunter), to lead the operation. Joining Gamoudi is a notorious Hamas terrorist (the killer of the title). Foreseeing all that Saudi oil flowing away from American gas stations, U.S. Adm. Arnold Morgan has to find a way to stop the coup without making the French hate us more than they already do. If the surfeit of military detail tends to slow the action, the main characters come across as real people caught up in a frightening scenario—one that's perhaps a bit too close to reality to make this novel completely comfortable as escapist fiction. Agent, Ed Victor (U.K.).
