Popular YouTuber Yan has been creating fun and whimsical hairstyles based on her admiration of anime for over a decade. Her followers look to her for inspiration and lessons about styling their own hair. She applies that concept to this book. It opens with the basic tools for creating hairstyles based on anime characters. All feature bangs and are seemingly intended for longer hair. The book includes a bio of the character, a photo of Yan sporting the style, and a list of tools readers will need to create it for themselves. Yan's techniques come with easy-to-follow written and illustrated instructions, and the hairstyles are categorized as easy, intermediate, and advanced. Note that hair color is often viewed as an important aspect of anime characters, yet this title does not mention anything about hair dying. Also be aware that the book's glossary is limited, and there's little to no advice about sustaining and nurturing the new hairstyle. VERDICT Despite the scanty information on terminology, hair dying, and maintenance, Yan's fans and lovers of anime will find much to like in this guide to anime hairstyles.--Laura Ellis
