Cage & Aviary Birds

Gail Harland's WATERBIRDS

The outcome of my new tactics • How did TONY EDWARDS‘s multiple partners for one cock Bengalese fare? Inevitably the results have been mixed, though with easily enough quality output to make it a most interesting experiment. Now he is looking forward to exploring some new possibilities with self greys in future breeding seasons

Living with avian influenza on your doorstep • ALISON WARD keeps a mixed collection, which includes parrots and poultry in outside accommodation. Here she describes how bird-flu outbreaks nearby have made extra precautions necessary and how she has been contacted by APHA. The good news: she can still enjoy her birds as much as ever

OC Aviary and the Twite Conservation Project • OLIVER CROWTHER introduces an ambitious captive breeding and rewilding plan which has an aim we can all support: to restore our endangered race of twite in the British Isles

TALK OF THE TYNE • Several of our historic canary breeds have an agreeable twist of enigma about them, and as Norman explains, the Scots fancy is no exception. Here he delves into the past of the famed ‘bird o'circle’ and previews some of the events where it will soon feature, as well as other regional show highlights

The Browns’ expanding finch collection • Thanks to the generosity of various fanciers, DAVE and JOSH BROWN can report a jump in the diversity of species to be found in their birdrooms! And extra inspiration has come from an outing to the most recent Foreign Bird League show, where quality was the norm

Canaries Month by Month: • Brian looks forward both to his local Yorkie show and also to its new neighbour event across in North Wales, which will make for an interesting North West double this season. He's set to venture a bit further afield, too, in the coming weeks

Club News • Welcome to the club and show pages – the bit that's all about you

Club roundup • Show reports, dates, club notices

What's on this week • Club meetings nationwide
