Magazine

The UK's biggest and best scootering magazine - with over 130 pages containing some of the best examples of customised and restored Lambretta and Vespa scooters in the world, new scooter reviews and test rides, events/ rallies/ show reports, and the massive 48-page pull-out Scooter Trader section - the best place to buy & sell scooters, spare parts and memorabilia!

It also regularly raids the archives to bring you best scooter stories and pictures from yesteryear, from Maico to Heinkel, Lambretta to Triumph! Don’t do as I do…

Schwalbe '74 • Scooters come in all shapes and sizes but, as René Fiedler’s Schwalbe illustrates, they all have one thing in common; they lend themselves to customisation.

The Knowledge: Rider first aid • Last month we explained the basics of assessing an accident scene and how to remove a helmet in an emergency. This month we get hands on with CPR and bleeding.

PIAGGIO BY POST: The Sears & Roebuck Allstate Vespa • This month Big Chris reminisces about frilly knickers and talks about Italian-American scooters

Round the bend • This month Paul Green contemplates the levels of riding skill displayed at a typical BSSO meeting.

A Modern problem • Modernism is a significant part of the scooter scene’s make-up and has been around longer than almost anything else, but is it becoming divided?

Grass skirts and button down shirts

Summer glovin’ • Summer’s just around the corner and a good pair of lightweight gloves turns a ride from being sweaty to sweet. Here we review some of the top gloves on the market.

STOMPING • We’re revamping our ‘culture’ section to include a wider selection of items of interest to ‘The Scene’. Next month Nik returns with music reviews and Rik brings a dose of fashion, but for now we bring something rare for the bookshelf and a long-awaited series on the telly.

Moving Targets: Rennie Innocenti

Fenwick Lambrettas: The saga of Lambretta manufacture in Troyes, France • Only a few buildings remain of the Saint-Julien-les-Villas factory in Troyes in the Department of Aube in north central France, and a hypermarket now stands where 870 people had been employed to produce Lambrettas.

The Fenwick Lambrettas That was then... French production deviations • Far from simply assembling the Lambretta in ‘knock down’ form, the French factory introduced several changes to its machines, with many of these improving on the original Italian design.

Fenwick Lambrettas This is now • Despite being produced in healthy numbers, French Lambrettas are now a relatively uncommon sight. We asked West Yorkshire Lambretta Restorations why this was.

Old-school tuning: The story of RMK 224F • Having acquired a few items from an old racing scooter, Stu Owen conceived a plan to build a Lambretta like no other.
