SCOOTERING

To boldly go...

Fred Willingham 1945-2022

Terry Hall 1959-2022 Too Young! – a tribute • For many Scootering readers, certainly those whose formative years were during the Mod revival and 2 Tone eras, the sad news of Terry Hall’s death was a shock.

LEGAL Q&A

Review of UK motorcycle licensing in the pipeline

Don’t tell anyone, but... • This month, Paul’s got a shocking admission to make...

Once in a lifetime • Now and then, someone comes along with unique qualities that leave an everlasting impression on those around them

The search party • When you’re a long way from home and bits fall off your scooter, you’ll go to any lengths to find them

Legendary GT

Rusty gold • Yes, this is Scootering and yes, this is a book about Volkswagens, but if you’re planning patina, Stan thinks that it deserves a place on your bookshelf.

Same, but different • There’s a new GTS in town and when Stan heard they were in stock at Ron Daley’s, he couldn’t wait to get a closer look.

MAILBOX • In our January issue Steve Groom suggested we should include more ‘budget scooters’. Little did he know what a can of worms he’d opened…..

Greece is the word • If you fancy riding somewhere that’s sunny, friendly and got brilliant stuff to see, you could do a lot worse than indulge in a spot of Greece. And to top it off nicely, there’s a place in Athens where you can hire a Royal Alloy for the trip.

SCREAMING BLUE MURDER • There’s much more to building a chop than simply extending the forks and, as Mark Geddes discovered, that also involves friendship.

Lambretta Model D • It was the most successful of all Lambretta open-frame models and with an illustrious history to match

Lambretta Model D That was then... • When The Motor Cycle reviewed the Lambretta Model D on February 26, 1953, Queen Elizabeth was still to be crowned and a suitable frame of reference for the scooter’s rise to popularity was the end of the Second World War. Even so, the reviewer managed to capture the D’s good and bad points with exceptional clarity.

Lambretta Model D This is now • Shaft drives are back in fashion, but is it a trend that Stan can buy into? He took CamLam’s demonstrator on a spin to see what all the fuss is about.

Rise Above It Stone Foundation mark silver jubilee • They’ve toured with icons such as The Specials and Paul Weller, and this year Stone Foundation celebrate their 25th anniversary. Sarge caught up with the band before the celebrations got under way.

Show us your Scoots

Send Us a postcard • It may not be ideal riding weather in the UK but don’t forget to keep your photos coming. This month we travel to the States and Vietnam, but we’re just as happy sharing your memories from much nearer to home. Just drop Stan a line and we’ll do the rest: stan@scootering.com

‘Back in the day’ when Legends were made… • Is it possible to go scootering on a tight budget? We think so, and in the first instalment of...
