Well-being oasis • A tribute to the bathtub of yesteryear.

Looks matter • Innovative and beautiful — outdoor fires and heating.

Create more space • Maximise your living space with an outdoor room.

Guiding light • World-class lighting crafted in New Zealand.

GARDEN ROOMS • Around this Christchurch home, which is raised above the ground to allow floodwaters to flow beneath it, an interconnected series of landscapes combines to create a striking aesthetic.

ROCKY OUTCROP • At the base of the Ben Ohau Range near Twizel stands a tiny cabin, secluded within a vast landscape.

TREESCAPE • Situated on a bush-clad site tucked into the hillside at Honeymoon Bay in Abel Tasman National Park, this is a house designed for enjoyment of the area’s unique landscape and beautiful beaches.

SOUL SERVING • The move towards having large organically farmed gardens sitting alongside hospitality venues is a growing trend in contemporary landscape architecture, where chefs and horticulturalists work hand in hand, planning menus based on what is growing in the garden.

Autumnal • Alfresco pieces for changing seasons.

Minimal • The treetops of Christchurch’s Hagley Park are visible from this en suite bathroom, which is located on the second floor of architect Jonathan Kennedy’s own home. Urban Jungle • The catalogues of the sophisticated Italian design brand Henge provided a starting point for this renovation project. Interior designer Angelique Armstrong of Armstrong Interiors worked alongside Michael Cooper Architects on an overhaul of the exterior and interior of the Parnell house, which is situated on an elevated site overlooking Orakei Basin.

Organic • This luscious bathroom is part of a luxury lodge situated high on a hilltop in Motueka, near Nelson. Consisting of four separate suites, each with beautifully designed bathrooms, the lodge overlooks the surrounding mountains and the wild Motueka River.

Sunset pinks • It may come as no surprise that the fixtures and fittings of this bathroom were chosen by an artist. Homeowner Laura Shallcrass took on the interior design of her Gibbston house, which was created by her husband, architectural designer Robbie Dick of The Habitat Design Co.

Cedar and oak • While the house that previously stood on this site was tired, the site itself was something special for architect Paul Clarke of Studio2 Architects. Surrounded by grand old trees, including an 80-year-old oak, the site called for a new home that took full advantage of the garden.

The Cliffs • Perched high on a rugged headland on the Otago coastline, with views towards Pūrākaunui and Blueskin Bay, this house is open to the elements. For Mason & Wales architects Matt Barbour and...
